Watermellon In Easter Hay – May 17th, 1988, Barcelona, Spain

August 21, 2009

That was Frank Zappa, 21 years ago. Tonight, Dweezil Zappa brings the Zappa Plays Zappa Road Show to Minneapolis at the Orpheum; Dweezil and the band are warming up Dream Theater.

Link here to watch Dweezil and the band playing “Peaches En Regalia” last year (embedding disabled; it’s a DVD performance from last year’s tour). And yes, that’s Steve Vai playing Stunt Guitar, to the left of Dweezil, and Napoleon Murphy Brok on sax!

Friday night, August 21, 2009, Zappa Plays Zappa, Orpheum Theater, Minneapolis – it just don’t get any better!

There's A Lot Going On

July 13, 2009

It’s a busy week – as usual. Lots of stuff coming up; including The National Civic Summit on Thursday and Friday and the 7th Annual Pigstock at Windbeam Farm.

I’m especially looking forward to the Camp Wellstone Alumni Reunion this Thursday during the National Civic Summit; fellow Camp Wellstone Alumni can register here

Where does a concerned citizen, that wishes to participate, go to keep up with all the festivities? Well, the ol’ TwoPutter knows one such place – let’s look!

Here’s that link from the video.

Progressive Nation 2009 Concert Tour

June 17, 2009

Earlier today I had tuned into Faux News. Then, I got the exciting news The World’s Finest Optional Entertainment would be on stage again. Dweezil has the Zappa Plays Zappa road show playing in the Progressive Nation 2009 tour. It’s in Minneapolis – at the Orpheum – on August 21st! Needless to say, I just bought 4 tickets, on the floor, in row O!

So, what does Faux News have to do with Zappa Plays Zappa? It’s a song! When Frank wrote “I’m The Slime” all those years about, he was anticipating Faux News! Let’s watch!!!

See you at the show – Orpheum on 8-21!

Swamp Music, On The Tundra This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

August 4, 2008

Ladies and Gentlemen, I first became aware of The New Orleans Radiators years ago, when a friend gave me a listen to a live album of Fishhead Music The Radiators recorded live here on the tundra, in St. Paul, at The World (now Fitzgerald) Theater. And to this day, “Bucket Of Fish” remains one of my favorites. Since then, I’ve managed to see ’em more than a few times – including in their home town of New Orleans and just last June, at a private show in Minneapolis.

This Friday and Saturday, The Radiators are playing their unique and branded Fishhead Music at Bunkers – and with any luck at all, I’ll be there Friday. If I could, I’d be there both nites, ’cause The Rads never – NEVER – play the same sets two nights in a row. Sunday, they’re headlining Duluth’s Bayfront Blues Festival. Again, if I could, I’d be there – I’d make all three shows. If you could, you should, too. Do what you can; clear your schedule, call in sick, whatever – but make time to see at least one. If you like southern/blues/jam/swamp/funk/rock music, you’ll love The Radiators. They’ve been making people dance for 30 years.

Here’s a couple of songs from a private party The Radiators played – enjoy it, and who knows? Maybe I’ll see you at Bunkers, this Friday.
